Made In Stirling is a new initiative to give local creative people and businesses the opportunity to display and sell a range of arts, crafts and design work in Stirling city centre this summer.

Based at 58 Murray Place, Stirling the shop will run from mid July through to the end of September and anyone interested in this opportunity to showcase and sell their work is being urged to bring forward proposals for the shop.

As you know the aim of Start Up Street was to revitalise the city centre by bringing new and interesting uses to vacant commercial property. The pop-up shop links in with the wider Start Up Street initiative, however, Made in Stirling is the first project of the newly formed Stirling Creative Industries Forum (SCIF).  SCIF is a branch of the Stirling Business Panel and is specifically focused on addressing the needs of people working in Stirlings creative industries.

The shop will provide retail and display space for the best work by local artists, photographers, designers and artisans.  It will also provide information on whats on, with daily listings of upcoming cultural and creative events across Stirling, promoting creative venues and activities across the Stirling area.

Garry Freckleton, Chair of SCIF and Co-director of Twenty Ten Architecture, said:

We are really excited to launch the pop-up shop and urge local creative businesses and artists to submit proposals to utilise the space over the summer.  In addition to showcasing some of Stirlings finest arts, crafts and design work; the shop will provide a wealth of information to tourists and residents on cultural activities in the Stirling area.

Keep your eyes peeled over the coming weeks for more updates and information. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek of the shop unit.

King Street Vacant Properties

6 Jan

The SUS ground team have had some questions come back querying the existing buildings available on King Street. Below you can see a document we have sourced from October 2011 detailing some of these properties.

An update on SUS

24 Nov

A quick update on where we are at.

We’re currently collating the report from the first prototype we ran in Stirling arcade at the beginning of September.  This will be available to read soon.

We’ve been building a process of how this works, and ensuring that we lay the foundations before we make promises that this can happen, we’ll be posting a blog soon about some of the realities of what shops spaces are available and not from information Andy Kennedy has managed to pull together at Stirling Council.

We were overwhelmed with the support and enthusiasm for the concept and the feedback and ideas we generated during the first prototype we ran in Stirling arcade.  For those of you who didn’t make it, we had a great day on the Saturday interviewing members of the public and designing some of the process to make this work with them.  We’ve created a film of the first prototype we ran in September.

We are now at the stage of organising two events, an expert day to run around King Street showcasing some other ventures that are similar to how Start Up Street might work and a development day to pull together the process and build plans for how we will run the next prototype, putting ventures into a shop.
